Bluejay Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 12, 2026

Bluejay ("Bluejay," "we," "our," or "us") connects parents with sitters in their local community. Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

By using Bluejay, you agree to this policy.

1. Who Can Use Bluejay

  • Bluejay is intended for users in the United States only.
  • We do not allow anyone under 13 years old to create an account.
  • Sitters may be under 18. If a sitter is a minor, they must have a parent or guardian linked to their account who has visibility into bookings.
  • All information about children (such as names or ages) is provided by parents or guardians.

2. Information We Collect

A. Information Parents Provide

When parents create an account, we collect:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Optional phone number (for SMS notifications)
  • Home address
  • Profile photo (optional)

Parents may also provide information about their children, including:

  • Child's name
  • Age
  • Grade
  • School

Parent home addresses are only shared with sitters after a booking is confirmed.

B. Information Sitters Provide

When sitters create an account, we collect:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Optional phone number (for SMS notifications)
  • Date of birth
  • Grade and school
  • Home address

Sitter home addresses are never shared with parents. We use sitter address information (including latitude/longitude) to calculate proximity to jobs and display general location, not exact address.

C. Booking & Messaging Information

We store:

  • Messages between users
  • Booking details and history
  • Ratings and reviews
  • Associated addresses for confirmed bookings

We soft-delete bookings when appropriate, meaning they are removed from view but retained in our system.

D. Payment Information

  • Payments are processed through Stripe. We do not store or have access to full credit card numbers.
  • Stripe may collect and process payment details according to their own privacy policy.
  • We may store transaction records (such as booking amount and date) for accounting purposes.

E. Automatically Collected Information

We use secure hosting and limited technical monitoring tools. This includes:

  • Basic device and browser information
  • Log data
  • Error reports (via Sentry)

This helps us maintain reliability and improve performance. We do not run advertising trackers.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Create and manage accounts
  • Match parents and sitters
  • Facilitate bookings
  • Process payments
  • Send transactional emails and SMS notifications
  • Improve platform safety and performance
  • Respond to support or privacy requests

We do not sell personal information.

4. When Information Is Shared

We share information only as necessary to operate the platform:

Between Users

  • Parent full address is shared with sitters only after booking confirmation.
  • Sitter exact home address is never shared.
  • General location may be visible for matching purposes.

With Service Providers

We use trusted third-party providers to operate Bluejay, including:

  • Stripe (payments)
  • Vercel (hosting)
  • Resend (email delivery)
  • Twilio (SMS notifications)
  • Sentry (error monitoring)

These providers only receive the information necessary to perform their services.

We do not sell or rent personal data to third parties.

5. Data Retention

  • We retain account information while your account is active.
  • We delete accounts upon request.
  • We currently soft-delete booking records but may retain certain records for legal, accounting, or safety reasons.
  • We do not currently hard-delete all historical system records immediately upon account deletion.

6. Data Security

We use reasonable technical safeguards to protect your information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption in transit
  • Encryption at rest
  • Restricted internal access

No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we work to protect your information appropriately for a platform of our size and scope.

7. Your Choices & Rights

You may:

  • Update account information in your settings
  • Control SMS and email notification preferences
  • Request deletion of your account
  • Request access to or correction of your personal information

California residents may request information about what personal data we collect and request deletion, subject to legal exceptions.

We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

8. Children's Privacy

  • Bluejay does not allow children under 13 to create accounts.
  • All information about children using the platform (such as names or ages) is submitted by parents or guardians.
  • If we learn that we have collected information directly from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it.

Continued use of Bluejay after updates means you accept the revised policy.
